Digital technologies are increasingly transforming healthcare and opening up new opportunities to identify mental health issues early on and provide low-threshold support services. Particularly in the context of student health, the question arises as to how digital approaches can be used in a meaningful, effective, and responsible manner.
The lecture provides insight into current developments in digital healthcare. Among other topics, it focuses on mobile sensing—that is, the use of passively collected sensor data from smartphones and wearables—as well as internet- and mobile-based interventions to support those experiencing mental health challenges. Drawing on current research findings, the lecture presents the potential, evidence base, and concrete application prospects of these approaches.
At the same time, the lecture highlights key challenges in digital healthcare, including issues of acceptance, data security, methodological validity, and clinical responsibility. Finally, the focus turns to potential prospects for LMU and the question of how innovative digital approaches could contribute in the future to sustainably strengthening student health and meaningfully complementing existing support services.
